In broad brushstrokes and with a great sense of humour the author paints the picture of a period that seems so obscure and dark to most.

Clear and concise, and straight to the point!!! I wish they were more text books like this one--very clear!!

calling ferlinghetti's work anything less than the above would be blasphemous, but really, what great writing! i love his observations and insights on different places and people. and the way he puts words together, like "concrete crete", in one poem. i read these poems, and sit dumbfounded, in public places no less, breathless, with a goofy grin on my face. these poems are absolute masterpieces. a must for any europhile, traveler, tourist, beatnik-wannabe. heck, a must in general.

I have no choice but to give this work 5 stars because I am no other than the other himself. This book, I can promise you, will stir up a lot of different thoughts that one is not generaly accustom to think about. My views on the world are not the most contemporary of ways and detail the world to show those who are blind to many of the worlds flaws, just that. The book includes 170 acrostic (like acronyms) about life, the political system, love, religion, my flaws, and of course the world in whole. When my book officially came out, I read the book as a reader rahter than the author, and I was objectivly very impressed with the work. This was my first book authored, but not the last. If you have any comments or questions regarding Evidence of a Cluttered Mind...I can close to promise you that this book will work to make you a better and more knowledgable person. The insight provided within its pages, will provoke deep thought, curiousity, and some laughs. Enjoy.

Lawrence Freedman was written many important articles and books but _The Evolution of Nuclear Strategy_ is probably his best. He presents a comprehensive analysis of the development nuclear strategy from 1945 to the end of the Cold War. The book usefully explains a multitude of concepts such as second strike capabilities, massive retaliation, and selective options. Freedman gives added depth by covering nuclear strategy in China, Europe, and the Soviet Union.

One of the great strengths of this book is its objectivity. Most works on nuclear strategy focus on arguing whether nuclear war is still possible, how a nuclear war would be fought, or if mutually assured destruction is a stable and inevitable strategy. Freedman definitely questions the logic of strategies that aim to fight nuclear wars and favors mutually assured destruction. However, the text is devoid of rhetoric or argumentation that would cloud his historical analysis.

Some may criticize the book because it does not concentrate on certain issues relevant today, such as non-proliferation or nuclear terrorism. From the perspective of 2001, though, Freedman's work serves as a history of the major strategic discourse of the Cold War. In a way, his work serves as a the cap on fifty years of writings on nuclear strategy.

For students of strategy, _The Evolution of Nuclear Strategy_ is an essential read. In terms of comprehensiveness, objectivity, and good explanation, this book cannot be matched.

Here is the third (and in my opinion)and the best adventure yet in the Sneezle series written by Terri Windling and with beautiful artwork by the doll maker Wendy Froud. In this new adventure, Sneezlewort Rowanberry Rootmuster Boggs the Seventh, who is a tree root faery, is on his way to tell the King Oberon news about these violent twig type looking creatures that have been attacking the creatures that live in the forest. But by accident, Sneezle is taken to a humans house instead! Sneezle is very frightened, he has never seen a human, much less been in their house. Sneezle needs to get out of this humans cottage but how? I will leave the rest for you to find out when you buy this book and read it but I will tell you that you are in for many nice and beautiful surprises because this book truly is a work of art and I would recomend you buy it.

Henry A. Harter has written one of those rare and unique books that comletely and exhaustively decribes the history and details of one of the most fabled railroads in the world. Not only do you read about the rich and famous that helped build this railroad (and all of it's privately owned spurs), but there are detailed plans showing locations and gauges of all the lengths of rails. Long gone RR stations are described in location and historical function. Although it can be a tad dry sometimes, one never loses the feeling of romantism regarding this great period of history.

I certainly hope that someone writes and updated version of this railroad including all the political and natural circumstances that have affected it since it went into disrepair after the 1980 Olympics. Until then, nothing matches this marvelously ,heavily researched book.

As a homeschooling mother of six I am always looking for ways to learn as a family. This gorgeous book, based on the old Douay Bible (most reliable translation), has 52 very manageable stories that walk the family through the whole Bible. The translation is extremely accurate and easy to understand for all. What a special way to keep "holy the Sabbath!" Once a week on Sunday evenings Dad reads Bible stories to the family from God's Book. In one year (52 weeks) we will have the joy of knowing we have given our children a precious gift... treasure in heaven. We hope to repeat this every year till they leave and pass this tradition onto their own children. Honestly, the illustrations are exquisite. This will become a cherished family heirloom. I am forever grateful to the author and illustrator. May God bless them for their efforts.

This densely written and lengthy book is sometimes difficult reading, but more than worth the effort! It is an excellent source of information for genealogists trying to understand the motivation of ancestors whose actions seem incomprehensible today. By providing detailed analysis of family relationships from 1500 to 1800 in England, Mr. Stone has given us all an insight into thought processes and values that are very different from our own. The book would be equally valuable for anyone trying to understand the everyday lives of people in another time, to historians, to authors doing research for historical novels or plays, or simply to anyone who wants to take the equivalent of a "ride in a time machine". This is an outstanding book and I highly recommend it, though not for light reading!
